Wheeler and Co. London, 1950s

£20.00

With 28 different ways to cook Dover sole, eleven ways to consume lobster and many other fish specialities this menu from Wheeler's of Old Compton Street in London is a piscatarian's dream. The interior of this beautifully illustrated menu features a mermaid waitress and a fiendish and bearded merman chef while the front cover is stylishly minimal. Wheeler's Oyster Bar was established in Whitstable, a lovely small fishing town on the Kent coast, in 1856 by Richard Leggy Wheeler, a master mariner. In 1929, the restaurant opened in London and was the flagship for a chain of restaurants that has since all but closed down. Only the original Wheeler's Oyster Bar in Whitstable - still proudly serving fish dishes some 156 years after its birth - remains.

The Wheeler and Co. Front Cover (Window) and Rear Cover (Fish and Crustaceans) are available as individual prints.

Each print is accompanied by a copy of the interior menu.

Choose 'Both Front + Rear' for separate prints of both main images.

We make our prints with archival-quality fine art paper, using professional pigment inks. Properly framed or stored, our prints will last 70+ years without fading or discolouring.
